'Sir Ashutosh College' announces admission on communal division
Sir Ashutosh Government College, Boalkhali has issued admission notification for the 11th class keeping Muslim-non-Muslim division. The admission of 'Sir Ashutosh Government College' in the 100-year-old Boalkhali Upazila of Chittagong has created a confusing atmosphere among the students and parents. There have been allegations of Muslim-non-Muslim students being admitted on such separate fees for several years.
Students and parents said there cannot be two rules for Muslims and non-Muslims in one college. Because in the field of education it does not take any religion or caste, it does not mean any caste. Education is equal for all. Where positive values, democracy, equality, humanity and gender equality are also learned from the campus & educational institutions make an important contribution in the practice of these values. And it is not clear to us what was indicated by dividing the admission fee of Muslim and non-Muslim students from such an education level.
Admission to class XI has started from September 13 in all educational institutions across the country. Prior to the admission, a notice dated September 10 from Sir Ashutosh Government College stated that the fee for admission to the science department has been fixed at Tk 2,601 for Muslim students and Tk 2,551 for non-Muslim students. The fee for admission to business education and humanities has been fixed at Tk 2,341 for Muslim students and Tk 2,291 for non-Muslims. However, the college authorities say that an additional Rs 50 is being taken from Muslims for the mosque. For this reason, the admitted students have been divided into Muslims and non-Muslims. But the notice issued by the college authorities did not mention any such reason.
An unnamed student, who has just been admitted to class XI, said education is equal for all. And in the notice of admission to this college and when it comes to admission, religion and caste are different.
Many parents said they did not know the reason for the split fee in the notice. Their complaint is that from where the students will get some good education and wherever they come they will forget about religion and caste. But there it is as if the students are being taught to be different again and again.
One of the students' guardian (brother) Osman Ali Raju said, I have come to get admission after getting the admission notice. I did not notice the issue of Muslim-non-Muslim fee split at first. Later I noticed that in case of Muslim students it is 50 rupees more. There was no opportunity to know about this from anyone. And the biggest thing is that the notice did not give any reason or details.
Many students studying in Sir Ashutosh Government College have been complaining that Muslim-non-Muslim students have been admitted on such separate fees for many years. They also demanded to fix the same fee in educational institutions without discriminating between religions and castes.
Sir Ashutosh Government College Principal said to know about this. Perth with Pratim Dhar. "It's already in place," he told Sivas. Notices have been issued in this manner for several years. There are mosques for Muslims in educational institutions, so Muslim students are being charged extra Rs 50 for mosques. Besides, no extra money is being taken.
He added that since there is no place of worship for non-Muslims in the college, the money is not being taken from them.
Asked if many parents did not know the reason, he said the matter was not mentioned in the notice but the receipt did mention the details of all the money.
Sociologist and Bandarban University Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. F. Imam Ali said that in principle it is a kind of discrimination. There is no religion-caste discrimination in the field of education. Everyone in the educational institution is known as a student If any of the students are financially indigent, it is recommended to reduce the amount by applying to the principal separately. However, there is no rule to divide the fee for Muslims and non-Muslims with a separate notice for admission. It's totally unreasonable. It can never be.
Referring to the constitution of Bangladesh, he said education is equal for all citizens. The constitution of Bangladesh does not discriminate against any student. College authorities do not need to see which students come from which religion, which family. The college authorities should complete the teaching and examination of the students properly. These religions cannot discriminate between students, it is unfair.
He called Mohammad Halim, Deputy College Inspector of Chittagong Board of Education, several times on his mobile phone to contact him but he did not answer.
Later, when I spoke to Narayan Chandra Nath, Controller of Examinations, Chittagong Board of Education, he said, "I have spoken to the principal of the concerned college." There was a problem of not mentioning the matter in the notice. Doing so would not have created any questions or created such confusion among the students. He said he would look into the matter even after that.
