International Human Rights Organisation Amnesty International says: Delhi Police were also involved with the delhi genocide in this year.

In a report released on Friday, Amnesty also complained that just as the active role of the police in preventing riots was not seen in many cases, some of the riot victims were not seen coming forward when they called the police for help.

The Hindu-Muslim riots in north-east Delhi on February 23 this year are considered to be the worst in three and a half decades in the Indian capital.

More than 50 people, mostly Muslims, were killed in the riots.

The role of the police in the riots, which in many cases was questioned, was seen in various videos circulating on social media - some of which were verified by the BBC itself.

Now Amnesty International has sharply criticized the role of the police in a detailed report released on Friday.

They say they have verified the videos of the riots on social media in their own laboratories, and have interviewed more than 50 riot victims and eyewitnesses.

One of the video interviews they released was with Mrs. Kishmathun. She is the mother of Faizan, a young man killed in the riots.

Videos of Faizan and some of his comrades were spread on social media - where they were seen lying on the streets in a bloody state and being forced to sing the national anthem.

Faizan died three days after the video was taken, according to Amnesty International.

Mrs Kishmathun described to Amnesty International how her son was taken away by police after being beaten and detained for 36 hours without charge.

Amnesty International's head of legal and policy matters Mrinal Sharma, told BBC Bangla what the picture was of talking to eyewitnesses of the riots.

"The Home Minister of India said in the Lok Sabha on March 11 that the police had played a very good role in stopping the riots in Delhi, but the investigation conducted by Amnesty International had the opposite picture. We know that the police have committed gross human rights violations," he said.

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. Most of the detainees are Muslims - it is also known, "said Mrinal Sharma of Amnesty International.
